4 OUTSTANDING PRESENTATIONS --- A GREAT EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY! Join us to explore timely DB2 for z/OS v9 and v10 topics and hear a special zEnterprise Virtualization and Hybrid Computing presentation. We hope you can join us for the day. AGENDA 9:00am Registration and Coffee 9:30 am “In-Depth Look at DB2 10 Temporal Data”: Jeff Josten This presentation gives an in-depth look at one of DB2 10’s most exciting new features – Temporal Data. Most IT systems need to keep historical as well as current information. Previously, these kinds of requirements would have involved the DBA and application developers spending valuable time creating and testing the code and associated database design to support the historical perspective, while minimizing any performance impact. DB2 10 now provides this functionality as part of the database engine. The temporal data feature gives: • Improved DBA and developer productivity • Reduced errors in application code • Reduced time-to-market for new applications • Improved performance by driving function into the database engine • Improved application consistency • Supports compliance / audit requirements 10:45 am “DB2 for z/OS 9 and 10 Query Optimization Enhancements”: James Guo This presentation discuss some of the leading edge query performance improvements in DB2 10 and DB2 9 for z/OS that improve performance and save costs. Come learn query parallelism enhancements that dynamically merge and repartition the skewed data to improve query performance significantly. Other parallelism enhancements that improve query response time and reduce the total cost of ownership will be discussed. Learn other query performance improvements such as range list access, list prefetch for disorganized indexes, dynamic prefetch enhancements and more stage 2 predicate push down, etc. Learn query optimization enhancements that give stable and efficient access path and avoid disaster during query execution. 12:00 pm Lunch – Courtesy of IBM 12:30 pm “zEnterprise Virtualization and Hybrid Computing”: Lionel Dyck Managing the complexities of IT today requires smarter systems and software that allows for governance and consolidation without migration…which is at the heart of zEnterprise. The announcement of the zEnterprise changes islands of computing for specific client workloads from merely connected to being connected, integrated, flexible, dynamic and responsive to business objectives. Hybrid computing with zEnterprise means that applications can run on the platforms where they run best (i.e. z/OS, AIX, Linux and Windows) and have mainframe qualities of service extended to them. This presentation will take you into the new world of hybrid computing and help you understand the “Right Fit” approach for critical applications. 1:45 pm “DB2 10 for z/OS and Beyond” :Jeff Josten This session will explore some of the highlights of the most recent release of DB2 for z/OS, DB2 10. We will also discuss some of the technology trends that are driving DB2 development into the future and some early thoughts about what might appear in the next release of DB2. 3:00 pm Wrap-up and Closing Remarks Speakers: Jeff Josten is an IBM Distinguished Engineer and the lead architect of DB2 for z/OS. He is located at the IBM Silicon Valley Lab in San Jose, California. He has worked for IBM since 1985 and has been a member of the DB2 team since 1987. He owns several patents in the area of data base technology, and is a frequent speaker at user group and customer meetings. James Guo is a senior software engineer in DB2 for z/OS with experience in SQL performance analysis and tuning and DB2 z system performance analysis and tuning. James has experience in performance tuning of several TPC benchmarks and customer benchmarks. James helps DB2 customer migrate their applications to new DB2 releases. James is a frequent speaker at IDUG and DB2 conferences. Lionel Dyck is a z Client Architect who started as a JCL Clerk in 1972, then spent the next 30 years as a senior or lead MVT to z/OS Systems Programmer. Before joining IBM in 2009, through an outsourcing initiative, Lionel architected and then implemented a mainframe virtualization environment for a large HMO using z/VM and Linux. Lionel was a contributor of mainframe open source and authored over two dozen technical articles for the NaSPA Technical Support Magazine. Lionel lives in the San Francisco East Bay
